Believe it or not, there's another type 1 diabetic in Isobel's gymnastics class. Isobel tells me that she's at the candy machine before class, gobbling candy. And today (the day after Halloween), she told Isobel that she had been eating candy all day.
Ok - I just don't get it. How do people justify eating sugar when they are diabetic - or eating foods that turn directly to sugar (potatoes, etc). I am baffled by some people's treatment plans. I think next week I will try to talk to this girl and find out what her regimen is. I'm so nosy! I really just want to help. I think some people are uneducated about this disease.
I also think that sometimes I come off as arrogant. I really don't mean to be. It's just that I am so passionate about this ... and I really want to help. I'll let you know how my encounter goes. :)

Hello,
it is intresting to read your blog/webpage. I am sure you love your daughter very much. Anyhow I am type 1 diabetic, too. I do not think I can judge your life or so. Just one thought came up to my mind. Your can now keep your daughter to a low carb rather strict regime, but one day she will become a teenager and some day even move out and go to college. My feeling is a rather normal use of carbs by than may be more usefull. Otherwise a feeling of beeing different is caused that may some day lead as far as to a distorted bodyimage resulting in "forgetting" insulin shots etc... Sorry bout some english mistakes, but I am german. Anyhow I wish you and your daughter all the best! :)

Hi Tanya,
Thank you for your comment! I understand what you are saying ... but I don't completely agree. :) I am teaching Isobel that health is more important than anything. She needs to take care of herself no matter what. I compare it to some athletes ... you know the ones who are perfectly healthy, never eat anything bad, etc. They do so by choice - so as not to jeopardize their body and their sport. They aren't diabetics ... but they will only put certain things in their bodies. I want Isobel to realize that she should eat healthy whether or not she is a diabetic. That's my opinion!! Thanks for reading. Lisa
